The Hovells Creek trail starts from a carpark located 40 minutes drive from Werribee. Google co-ordinates 38°04’13.8″S 144°24’20.0″E not far from Geelong Grammar School
You will need to bring: 1-2 Litres water, clothing appropriate for the weather, comfortable footwear, first aid kit, hat, sunscreen, morning tea, Lunch and bug spray.
This is a relaxing, walk. The track is mostly flat, paved and is popular with cyclists and joggers. There is very little shade so hats and sunscreen are recommended. There are amenities and picnic tables near the car park.
Hovells Creek empties into Limeburners Bay where there is a small marina used by the Lagoon Boat Club. It is also part of Limeburners Lagoon State Nature Reserve.
The trail follows the course of Hovells Creek as it meanders north towards Lara. It is a haven for waterbirds and at least one very cheeky magpie who will take the food out of your hand if you aren’t careful.
Both banks of the creek are lined with thick bushes with a few intermittent wetlands with low growing vegetation. The first part of the walk skirts the Geelong Grammar grounds with grasslands bordering the rest of the walk.
Half way along the trail we will stop for morning tea at a small shelter before continuing on to our turn around spot at the Princes Freeway underpass. We return the same way getting back in time for lunch.
