Due to extensive road works along K Rd and the viewing platform still being closed, this walk has been significantly changed to improve the day’s experience. It will be a bit shorter and therefore rated grade 2.
This walk takes in the beautiful K Road Cliffs formed over eons by layers of sedimentary deposits. It winds through the Werribee Mansion Park and along the Werribee River.
The terrain is mostly flat with a few short hilly sections, comprising compacted earth, gravel and grassy areas. The walk is suitable for most ages and reasonable fitness level.
We commence our journey from the Rose Garden car park where there are amenities if anyone needs them. We continue through the gardens and the farmyard with its historical buildings and vegetable gardens.
A formed earthen path to our right leads through a small forested area of impressive river gums and along the golf course with its lush green lawns, to come out at the bridge over the Werribee River.
Once over the river we turn left to follow the lower trail which eventually climbs up to the ridge track. We will continue on this path until we reach a fence line bordering on Old Boundary Rd.
On the return walk, a small path off to our right, angling down a slope, leads onto an island from which we get a great view of the K Rd Cliffs.
Our path then takes us back to the ridge trail, with more river views, down a ramp, back to the bridge and across the river following the same path back to the start.
Walkers can buy lunch at Joseph’s cafe, in the main Mansion building, or bring your own.
