Most of the trail is on shared flat concrete paths but we will venture onto grassy and earthen sections to follow the creek more closely from time to time. There are a few short undulating sections and the track is open in places but mostly shaded by beautiful river gums.
You will need to bring water, sunscreen, morning tea, lunch, wear sturdy walking shoes a hat and dress according to the weather.
This section of the trail is part of a longer M40 walk and a lot of revegetation over the past decades has been done along the picturesque creek in an effort to restore it to its former glory. It is rich in birdlife, lizards, frogs, turtles and wild flowers. Basalt rocks and outcrops are reminders of a once volcanic era. In addition, artwork is displayed along the route in the form of murals and rock sculptures.
We begin and end the walk at Buckingham Reserve. There are seats and amenities at both parks ( On preview day the taps weren’t working so bring sanitizer). Buckingham Reserve is a very popular park at lunch time so bring a chair in case the shelter is occupied. There are plenty of shady trees where we can have lunch on our return. You will need to carry water and morning tea with you which we will have at Selwyn Park.
