Mt Macedon Memorial Cross to Camels Hump

The drive from Werribee to Harbison picnic ground at the top of Mount Macedon is about 75 minutes. There are flushing toilets at the starting point. To come on this walk you will need to bring your lunch, snacks, water, rain coat, hat, hiking boots or suitable walking shoes (no thongs or sandals), first aid kit and walking poles if you have them.

The walk starts out on a solid earthen trail with a large number of small rocks spread across the track. After a while the rocks give way to a more solid surface. Some of the walk is on grass and there is about 1.4kms along a dirt road. The few times I have walked on this road I have rarely seen any vehicles. If there is rain prior to, or on the day, part of the trail could become muddy.

We will start the walk from the Harbison picnic ground on the trail heading north-west along the mountain top to the Camels Hump. This part of the walk has some small uphill sections and one longer (600 metre) uphill climb to the summit of the Camels Hump.

From the Camels Hump we descend to the car park at the base, cross over Cameron Drive and walk on the grassy verge, well away from the road, to Clyde Track.

We head down Clyde track and then up Hood track until we meet up with the walking trail that runs up the southern face of Mount Macedon to the Memorial Cross and Harbison picnic ground were the walk will finish.
