Mt Towrong Walk

We will carpool from Werribee to Mount Macedon, parking near the intersection of Mount Macedon Road and Douglas Road. Parking is limited to whatever is available on the side of the road. There are no toilets at the start, or anywhere on the walk. The track conditions are a mix of narrow walking trails over some rocky surface areas, some four wheel-drive tracks, and some stairs. If wet these can be muddy and slippery.

You will need to bring a rain coat, hat, hiking boots or suitable walking shoes (no thongs or sandals), water, lunch, snacks and walking poles if you have them. Bring warm clothing.

We will walk along Anzac Road, a quiet residential road, to the Mt Towrong Trail. There are some steps at the start and it is the start of a long climb up. Part of this is stepping over large rocks.

At the end of this trail, we go down Hemphill Track to Zig Zag Track. From here up to Sanatorium picnic ground, via a long, steep climb, rewarded with lunch when we get there.

After lunch we return to the cars via the same trails. There are some hills on the return walk, but not as many as going up.
