We will drive to the public parking area at Uni Hill Town Centre where the walk will commence and finish. Toilets are available at Uni Hill Town shopping mall before the walk and also at the Blue Lake / Plenty Gorge carpark at approximately the 6km point.
Bring at least 2L of water, sunscreen, a hat, a first aid kit, morning tea and lunch. Hiking shoes with good grip are recommended, and walking poles may also be useful on some of the uneven sections.
The walk first heads towards Janefield Wetlands before continuing into Plenty Gorge Parklands.
The route includes a mixture of formed paths, bush tracks and some uneven and rocky sections, with several moderate climbs and descents. We will pass through wetlands, open grassland and native bushland, with views of the Plenty River and surrounding gorge.
One of the highlights of the walk is Blue Lake, a former quarry that has filled with groundwater and is now surrounded by bushland. We will stop in this area for a break before continuing the loop back towards Janefield Wetlands and Uni Hill Town Centre. Please note that swimming in Blue Lake is not recommended.
