The 103km drive from Werribee should take around 1 hr 20 to get to Pipers by the Lake (403 Wendouree Parade, Lake Wendouree).
The track is mainly on a flat gravel path. You will need to bring lunch, snacks, water, warm clothes as the area is quite open, sturdy walking shoes and first aid kit.
We will start our walk in a counter clockwise direction around Lake Wendouree. Sights along the way include wetlands, parklands, birds, historic monuments, boathouses and if we are lucky we might even spot a Rakali. Drinking fountains, amenities and seating are scattered around the lake.
At the 3/4 mark we will cross Wendouree Parade and enter Murrup Laar Wetlands to do a loop of about 600m before rejoining the Lake walk back to the start. This section may be a bit muddy.
There is also an optional wander around the Ballarat Botanic Gardens after lunch if anyone is interested.
