Western Treatment Plant Bird Safari (members only)

Please note this is not a walking event but we will be able to get out of the car at certain spots. We have 3 drivers who each have a permit to enter the treatment plant. Each car can have a maximum of 3 passengers, so it’s first in best dressed! We will drive through 3 or 4 distinct areas to spot a variety of birdlife.

You are required, under the Melbourne Water conditions of entry, to wear a long sleeved top, long trousers and closed in shoes.

Other regulations include:
Avoid all contact with wastewater and sludge as they are a health hazard and contain pathogens.
You should not drink from the taps on Site. Water quality at the Site may vary in some areas and may not meet drinking water standards. You must provide your own drinking water
All animals must be given space to enact their wild behaviours without interruption
If you see any sick or injured animals on site keep a safe distance and contact the Customer Service Centre on 131 722. A photo and location information is helpful.
Drivers and Guest(s) must identify themselves and provide evidence of their identity (e.g. a drivers’ licence) if asked to do so.

Bring morning tea, lunch, water, sunscreen, bug spray, your camera or binoculars. Wear a hat as the areas are quite open.

We will regroup at Paradise Rd where there is ample parking and toilet facilities. From here we will split up and head off the different sections returning to Paradise Rd for lunch.
