Our walk will start from the Jack Cann reserve where there is a toilet, tables & seats, for when we have lunch on our return. Adjacent is the Garden of St. Erth & cafe for anyone interested in buying something for lunch. The cafe was open on preview day). Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash. Directions will be given on the day.
The surface of the track is both formed and unformed but generally clear of rocks and tree roots with one tricky bit where the level of the track changes shortly and sharply. It has many short inclines and declines, poles might be beneficial. Track might be slippery if it has rained prior to the walk.
You will need to dress appropriate for the weather, wear hiking boots or suitable walking shoes, bring water, morning tea, lunch, walking poles if you have them and toilet paper.
The trail generally follows old water races built by the miners many years ago, with mine shafts & workings littering the area, so it is advisable to keep to the track.
From the start we follow a well signposted trail in a southerly direction. We cross several small bridges, pass under majestic Manna Gums and Candlebarks, spot fungi and lichen on fallen trees and lush ferns. There is still evidence of fires from years ago and we may encounter the occasional jogger. We continue on through German Gully before heading north and then west back to the start. We’ll have morning tea along the way on a couple of convenient logs along the track (or BYO chair).
The walk should get us back to the start just in time for lunch.
