Yarra River, Royal botanic Gardens and Arts Centre Market

Walk entails three sections:

  1. Yarra River Walk, 3.6 kms (easy)
  2. Royal Botanical Gardens – 1.2 kms+ (easy)
  3. Arts Centre Melbourne Sunday Market – 30 minutes here

Arriving at 9:34am at Flinders Street Station for a refreshment break here before commencing the walk.

This very easy walk takes in many sites of Melbourne. From Federation Square to the Yarra River, along Birrarung Marr to the Carillion, past the many sporting complexes to Swan Street Bridge.

We continue to the Royal Botanical Gardens entering at the Bridge Gate to continue along the path for anyone wanting a comfort stop. From here we will walk towards the Separation Tree Roast House to a fork in the road.

After visiting the Separation Tree Roast House we carry on past The Terrace which borders the Punting on the Lake, past the Taxodium Lawn walking between the Central Lake and the William Tall Rest House. Then going right towards and passing by the Rose Pavilion and another set of toilets.

We continue along the path past the Dog Flat, Long Island and heading towards Plant Craft Cottage, Grey Garden, Temple of the Winds and Huntingfield Lawn which take us towards Lynch Gate near the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

This path will lead us towards St Kilda Road Art Centre. Hopefully we will find possums, bats and other wildlife in the gardens. Here you can visit the Sunday Art Centre Melbourne Sunday Market. Consume a coffee, snack or have a rest before proceeding onto Southbank for lunch. This walk will be at a leisurely pace. I am looking forward to being out in the urban space and one with nature so close to the city.
